How can we help?
Quick answers to the questions swimmers ask most, and a direct line to the developer for everything else. Messages are usually answered within two days.
Emergency at the water? Dial 112 or 999 and ask for the Coast Guard. This page cannot help in time.
Quick answers
How fresh is the data?
Water quality, bathing warnings, weather, waves, sea temperature, tide times and weather warnings all come from public monitoring services, fetched directly by the app each time you look.
Each spot page shows an Updated … ago chip next to “Right now”. Forecasts refresh every few minutes while the app is open and in the background between visits. If your phone has no signal, the chip says Saved copy and shows how old it is.
What does the score out of 100 mean?
It is Snámh's read of the conditions for one activity at one spot, right now. Water temperature, water quality, wind, waves and rain are each weighed, then adjusted for the experience and cold tolerance you set in Settings → Your swimming.
Safety problems are ceilings, not deductions. A red weather warning caps the score at 20, an orange one at 45, and a Poor water rating at 25, however good the sunshine looks. The reasons are listed under every score.
A beach says “Avoid” but the water looks fine.
Open the spot and look at the advisory box under the photo. “Avoid” means one of three things: a bathing restriction or prior warning is in force, there is a red weather warning for the county, or the water quality rating for that beach is Poor. Snámh will never show green on top of any of those, even on a calm day.
A warning is sometimes left open after the risk has passed. If you believe one is stale, send us the beach name using the form and we will check it.
Why does a lifeguarded beach show no hours?
Most beaches are listed as lifeguarded without published hours. Where the hours are not published, Snámh says Lifeguarded and stops there rather than inventing a schedule. Where they are, they appear under the flag.
My swim did not save to Apple Health.
Snámh asks for permission to write workouts the first time you finish a tracked swim. If you declined, open the Health app → your profile → Apps and Services → Snámh and allow Workouts, Swimming Distance and Active Energy.
Every swim is saved to Snámh's own journal regardless, so nothing is lost while you sort out the permission.
The Watch app's buttons do not respond during a swim.
That is Water Lock. Snámh turns it on when a swim starts so the sea cannot press the screen. Turn the Digital Crown until the screen unlocks, then Pause or Finish. The tracked swim keeps running the whole time.
If the Watch app is missing altogether, open the Watch app on your iPhone, scroll to Available apps and install Snámh.
Can I use Snámh in Irish?
Yes. Go to iPhone Settings → Apps → Snámh → Language and choose Gaeilge. The app switches immediately; the data feeds stay as their publishers wrote them.
How do I delete my data?
Delete the app. Your journal, watchlist, custom spots and profile live only on your device, so removing the app removes them. Swims written to Apple Health are removed from the Health app, which owns that copy. Nothing about you is stored on our side; see the privacy policy for the full picture.
A beach detail is wrong or missing.
Names, photos, facilities and lifeguard cover come from public beach profiles, so mistakes there usually start upstream. Send us the beach and what is wrong using the form (topic Data correction) and we will fix what we can in the app and report the rest.
